First-Year Syllabus
The first year focuses on foundational electrical safety and basic principles.
- Trade Theory & Practical:
- Electrical safety, hazards, and first aid.
- Identification and use of hand tools.
- Wires, basic joints (e.g., rat-tail, married, Britannia), soldering, and crimping.
- Fundamental electrical concepts: Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Law, and simple/parallel/series circuits.
- Chemical effects of current, cells, and lead-acid batteries.
- Magnetism, electromagnetism, and magnetic circuits.
- Basic electrical measuring instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter).
- Domestic wiring systems, testing, and earth grounding setups.
- Basic electronics: Diodes, transistors, and rectifiers.
Second-Year Syllabus
The second year advances to heavy machinery, industrial controls, and power distribution.
- Trade Theory & Practical:
- DC Generators and DC Motors (construction, working principles, testing).
- AC Three-Phase and Single-Phase Motors (induction, universal, and synchronous motors).
- Transformers (working, testing, and maintenance).
- Alternators and Motor-Generator (MG) sets.
- Industrial wiring and control panel wiring (starters, relays, timers).
- AC/DC motor drives, inverters, and UPS systems.
- Power generation, transmission, and electrical substations.
- Circuit breakers, lightning arresters, and protective relays.
- Basics of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy systems (solar/wind)
